Where We Are Now
Nilmgard
Bordering along the Svaralfaheim Mountains is another port city on the Serpent's Gulf.

Where We Have Been
Bense
Life is harsh in the frozen north, where thick snowfall buries the land for most of the year and people must carve out an existence between the stones of the mountains and the cold, lashing waves of the sea.
In times past the humans known as the Norrønir took to the waters in great longships to raid southern coasts from nearby Araland to distant Brujalandia. In their quest for plunder and slaves, the Norrønir warriors struck in the dead of winter when no sane ruler maintained an army, stripping villages and towns of their valuables before vanishing across the ocean far ahead of any resistance that could be mustered. Rowing hundreds of miles in a matter of weeks and sleeping above deck exposed to the elements bred a strong, courageous people who valued kinship, honor to one’s family and one’s chief, and above all else bold deeds worthy of the skalds’ verse.
But these days, the High King frowns on anyone “going Viking” and the typical Norrønur is a farmer, struggling to wrest a living from the hard-packed ground in the brief warm months on farms that range in size from a single family to a hundred freeman and thralls. Even without the grim whetstone of yearly raiding, the courage of these northern people is frequently tested. The rocky tundra, the dark forests, the ice-covered wastelands, and the tall mountain ranges are home to bands of marauding trolls, capricious elementals, malevolent spirits, the serpentine dragons known as linnorms, and the greedy, baleful barrow-haunting undead, the draugr.
High King Singandr Sinrisson, the Jarl of Jarls, recently celebrated his thirtieth year as monarch and a half-century of life, prompting younger warriors to wonder if it isn’t time for a change in leadership. Singandr sits on the Dragon Throne in Korjengard, content to collect the traditional peace-keeping Norrøngeld ransom from neighboring countries, while turning a blind eye to reports that Umsborg has launched a new attack on Seachford in Ungland. Meanwhile, under the Svartálfaheim Mountains, the dark elf faction known as the Underhand plots a revenge against the surface world born of centuries-old resentments, while from the Ymirian Mountains to the north the troll king sends his minions farther south than he has dared in decades. No less troubling, the long sleep of Orm Hinn Langi, the Doom of Sardeth, tempts younger linnorms across the land to vie for the title “King of All Serpents.”
Threats from within and without mount and the barbarism of ancient days is only a cold stone’s throw away from a return. The warriors and shield maidens of the ancient sagas have vanished into legend, and Norrøngard cries out for new heroes.
Ringborg
A number of young dwarves have immigrated from Underheim with the intent of restoring the old ways in the land of their forefeathers. They have established a hew holf of Ringborg on the coast of Serpent's Gulf.
